Women who embrace their femininity are often viewed as less serious, less intelligent, and not having their priorities in order. This is due to societies history of stereotyping women and criticizing them in everything they do that doesn’t fit into one outdated idea of a woman. Women can be strong, empowered, and professional while still embracing their femininity. Whether they embrace it in their appearance or their emotions; they should be taken seriously in their actions.
My concentration showcases some of the strongest, most independent, most intelligent, and most beautiful women that I know in a soft, delicate, sweet, and feminine way to show that these qualities can be simultaneous. When you google ‘Feminine traits’, things like vulnerability, empathy, and thoughtfulness show up. These are wonderful traits that should be taught to all genders, but despite how great these traits are, they are often deemed as “weak” when they show in real life. There is nothing about these traits that is weak or something to look down on, and the only way that anyone sees them this way is because they are categorized as inherently feminine. Women can be soft and kind hearted and emotional while being intelligent, serious, and reaching all their goals; in fact I believe that this is healthier than solely focusing on being professional and suppressing your emotions. I used soft lighting and feminine colors/objects in my images. Some of these “feminine” objects I included are ribbons, mirrors, jewelry/accessories and makeup. The “feminine” colors that I used include mostly pinks and purples. While the women in the photos may look feminine, they definitely do not look weak. |
