In this course students will work with a variety of sculptural media, which may include paper, papier mache, wood, wire, and clay. With clay, students will learn and execute three basic hand building techniques (pinch, coil, and slab). Sculptural design elements will be explored through additive and subtractive techniques. The use of a pottery wheel may be explored. Upon completion of this course, students will have a better understanding and appreciation for artifacts made by artisans from other cultures, as well as artwork made by some professional artists. Writing and thinking skills are reinforced through project evaluations and art critiques.
